Holy Week 2007
Holy Week and Easter mark the highest points in the Christian Year. The resurrection of Jesus Christ was, in the words of New Testament scholar, N.T. Wright, “the hinge on which the door of history turned. The resurrection of Jesus did not merely offer new, or sharply defined, hope for the future. It gave new perspective to the present time, cosmically and personally.” On Palm/Passion Sunday we recognize Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem and his Passion (betrayal, arrest, trial and crucifixion). The two extra services this week highlight portions of the Passion story. Maundy Thursday is named for Jesus' command given at the Last Supper (Maundy is from the Latin mandare , "to command") to the disciples to love one another as Jesus loves them. Good Friday commemorates Jesus' final earthly hours of betrayal, arrest, trial and crucifixion. It is a painful, yet crucial remembrance of Jesus' story, and his commitment to God and God's love for the world. Next Sunday we gather in the wonder, praise and celebration of Easter! The fullness of Holy Week serves to deepen our faith and inspire us with the amazing extent of God's love for us and the world. God bless you in your faithjourney this week and always.

"Getting the Word Out"-Concluded 5/21/06
Worship Series:
“Getting the Word Out”
The mission of the Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ. John Wesley, the spiritual ancestor of The United Methodist Church, preached and wrote strongly against “solitary religion.” As much as we value the private perspective of faith, there are undeniably social and relational dimensions to living faith.

Children's Ministry at White Pines UMC
Praise God for all the people involved in leading, teaching, and loving our children!
During the school year we have Sunday School after worship for preschool through 5th grade children. Our Middle and Senior High Youth Groups meet on Sunday afternoons and evenings.
During the summer a Children's Musical includes a two-week Children's Music and Drama Camp. The Camp runs Monday - Thursday mornings for two weeks, followed by Thursday evening and sunday morning Musical performances. In early June we staff the Children's Tent at the Rockford Start of Summer Festival.
Our annual White Pines Fest is an outdoor music event usually held in July with many fun activities for families, as well as great music and food. Periodic Family Fun Days include local outings and meals together.
Fall 2005 we celebrated the beginning of our White Pines Rocketry Program. In December we held our annual Advent Child Care Event, giving parents a five-hour break for Christmas preparation. The Christmas Pageant is one of several exciting children's outreach events in our ministry.
